Year Long Service - Americorps VISTA at Petaluma Bounty or CAPSonoma

The Center for Community Engagement (CCE) at Sonoma State University is teaming up with AmeriCorps VISTA and Saint Mary’s College to strengthen partnerships between Sonoma State University and Sonoma County nonprofit organizations to alleviate poverty and create positive social change. Be one of 4 AmeriCorps VISTA members for the upcoming academic year with Sonoma State University!

AmeriCorps VISTA members are passionate and committed to their mission to bring individuals and communities out of poverty. Members make a year-long, full-time commitment to serve on a specific project at a nonprofit organization. The AmeriCorps VISTAs with Sonoma State University focus on volunteer infrastructure and capacity building of organizations that fight illiteracy, improve health services, foster economic development, and otherwise assist low-income communities.

AmeriCorps VISTA members work one day a week at the Center for Community Engagement office at Sonoma State and four days a week at the community partner organization. Each VISTA will have unique responsibilities connected to their agency but all VISTAs have three main focus areas:

  1. First-Focus Area: VISTA is to be the point of contact and organizer between the nonprofit and SSU students, faculty, and staff who have projects at the non profit.

  2. Second-Focus Area: VISTA will strengthen the infrastructure at their nonprofit for volunteer management.

  3. Third-Focus Area: VISTA will work on a capacity-building project identified at the nonprofit. (Each position has their own unique capacity project)
